Bunratty Potcheen

Illegal since 1661 when authorities outlawed all but large commercial stills in Ireland, Poitin distilling – the craft of small pot distilling – has continued in the remote areas of Ireland over the centuries. Rebellious by nature, the Irish have defied any amount of regulation and cannot be persuaded to give up the virtues of small pot distilling. Distilled from grain, the Potcheen was created over peat fires using water from clear mountain streams and guarded by Leprechauns! Bunratty Potcheen has all the taste characteristics of Poitin and is the first to be legally produced and bottled in Ireland since 1661. Dry and grainy, it sweetens as it develops and is also know as Moonshine or Mountain Dew. Beware! Potcheen is a fiery drink best drunk neat as a shot, on the rocks or with a mixer for the frail of heart!.
